'Fore'

Last night we attended a fortieth birthday party for our godson. Very nice function with a real mix of old and young people. I don't know if it is just me but are we aging better than our parents? It seems to me that our generation somehow is still very much out and about, loving life, many of us don't have major medical issues and we seem to be really enjoying life. I don't remember my parents being as 'alive' as we are at their same age. Maybe I didn't notice.

In golf there is the term 'fore' which is shouted out on the fairway by a golfer who has just hit a golf ball which is now heading your way and you may want to protect yourself from being hit. No one knows for sure how it was derived, one school of thought is that it may have something to do with artillery fire and the warning to friendly infantry close by. Well, no one yelled 'fore' this week when an MP and former Cabinet Member, who was clearly flouting the rules with reference to the hiring of family members and the issue of a cheque being written by a Ministry to an organization that had not yet been registered, was now being reinstated to the Cabinet. The PMOTT in his wisdom fired this shot which has clearly angered the electorate who feel that they have been hit broadside. Why would he do this? Is it that he does not have the power he thinks he has? Is it pressure from the ranks, from the General Council at Balizier House? or is it that he has simply run out of choices of experienced people for Cabinet positions? Or worse, plain and simple poor judgement.
Whatever the reason he has shown a level of contempt for the citizens of this country which now puts his leadership in serious doubt. To make matters worse 'Burkie' was ever present at the swearing-in of the now reinstated Minister. Maybe the Ag CoP could actually say something on this. Did the President's security know who 'Burkie' was?

Every one loves 'Fitzy'! Isn't the newly demoted Minister now as a Junior Minister the best? Speaking on crime in the Parliament he now admits that for the last 20 years crime has been a major problem, 20 yrs eh,  different news media have him giving stories about alligators biting cops who did not read a 'No feeding' sign, police officers in Halifax doing ten times the work of a local police officer, and him begging the PMOTT to demote him so he could really serve the people.
You cannot make this stuff up people! This is reality in our twin island republic. And we are concerned about 'Destinations Unknown'. At the rate we are going I hope we remain' Unknown' until we can fix this.

Tobago stand by, the fleet is arriving shortly to fix your sea transportation woes. I don't know if anyone realizes that these two old vessels that have been contracted are coming at a price twice the cost of what was there in 2015. The PATT Chairman blurts the figures out and not one single media house asks about the doubling of the cost, not one. No one asked who was the agent in Trinidad and Tobago and with whom the contract was signed. The reason for making these statements is simply for transparency. When in early 2017 the current administration went to town on the operations of the ferry service using powerful language like ' corruption at the highest office, ransom, bid rigging, gun to the head etc'. Without the PATT being straight up with this ferry contract we can only assume that all is well, yes?

The government cannot for one single second be thinking about demolishing one of the iconic buildings in the country, the POS General Hospital. I am pretty sure that the media, once again, did not get the full story. This is not going to happen. Steups, what am I thinking, a previous administration demolished the second official home of the first PMOTT. A building that had so much history attached to it including the first uprising by the people of this country after becoming Independent, the 1970 Black Power UpRising. The first official residence is still standing in Mary St, St Clair.

And so life goes on on the rock. We the happy people take it coming and going. Things are so good that even the poor husband of the Chinese national murdered this week is packing his bags and heading home to China. How many nationals of China actually re-migrate? Only from the rock, only from the rock!

This week was the tenth anniversary of the launch of the iPhone.

Peace and love, looking forward now to the 22nd July and the 5 Big Band show at the QPS.

Peace and quiet

When you hear the words 'perfect' or 'the best' it makes you feel like a million dollars. Human nature is weird, a simple compliment can turn a whole story into a week of joy! And, yes, I am speaking about the Sunday night popcorn! Apparently, tonight was exceptional. I hope the rest of the week translates into 'perfect'. The horrible news of the deaths of two cyclists over the weekend came as a real shock. We both know a number of people who cycle for good weekend sport and to hear of Joe Brown being killed in an accident was truly heart-rending. When we heard of the accident we started to think of all the people we know who cycle and just hoped it might be somebody we did not know. Is this how it works, you hope that it's not someone you know, what about all the people who actually know the person? Truly a sad day! RIP Joe and Joanna! The issue of cycling and motorists is one that every country I am sure goes through. Is it that the main roads are for...

Time is an illusion!. Albert Einstein, and he should know. Today is already the 1st of March and it seems that we are hurtling through our galaxy at warp speed heading somewhere. The first Carnival Band launch will be in five months, parang music in eight,   and then the whole cycle begins again. This weekend is Pagwa  or the festival of Holi aka the festival of colours. Thousands of Hindus and citizens alike on the Rock will participate in this wonderful, happy ritual of spraying 'abeer' on each other in true friendship. Like many religious festivals it always has something to do with good over evil. Maybe we should declare this entire year the year of Holi and allow the good to take over and remove the evil.            I cannot fathom what is happening on the Rock with the PMOTT appointing a twice sworn -in and twice subsequently removed Minister. This time it came as a thief in the night, even though they really surface that way ...

One of the great things about living on the rock is one is subject to all kinds of natural phenomenon. I know we don't get snow, no, we leave the good parts out for the Canadiens and even those living in northern Florida. We have rain, sun, hurricanes (every so many years), mud volcanos, an entire lake of asphalt, salt ponds, 100% humidity and earthquakes. This morning at 2.27 nature did not disappoint, I first heard the rumbling, thought what the hell is wrong with the #$%^&& air conditioner and then the lovely roll started, the creaking of stuff in the room and then she was gone. I have two Rock earthquake stories, not that earthquakes are funny. In Arima where I grew up in the 'boys room' there was a set of barbells under the bed, under my bed, and loose barbells make the loudest sound when rattled by an earthquake. Motto, go to a gym if you live in an earthquake prone area. Guyana has very few earthquakes that are actually felt. Years ago I read where a fam...
