collapsed

One of the great things about living on the rock is one is subject to all kinds of natural phenomenon. I know we don't get snow, no, we leave the good parts out for the Canadiens and even those living in northern Florida.
We have rain, sun, hurricanes (every so many years), mud volcanos, an entire lake of asphalt, salt ponds, 100% humidity and earthquakes. This morning at 2.27 nature did not disappoint, I first heard the rumbling, thought what the hell is wrong with the #$%^&& air conditioner and then the lovely roll started, the creaking of stuff in the room and then she was gone. I have two Rock earthquake stories, not that earthquakes are funny.
In Arima where I grew up in the 'boys room' there was a set of barbells under the bed, under my bed, and loose barbells make the loudest sound when rattled by an earthquake. Motto, go to a gym if you live in an earthquake prone area.
Guyana has very few earthquakes that are actually felt. Years ago I read where a family living in a wooden house, on stilts, felt the house shaking and commented that they thought it 'was bandits shaking the house' trying to get them out.

The Government of the Rock has collapsed. If one is to go by what has happened in the last 27 months then the PMOTT and his Administration are really in serious trouble.

The Parliament has collapsed. An MP and Cabinet Minister incapacitated in a US hospital and we, the citizens, do not know the truth. If the MP cannot return to work then a by-election must be called. The law says that a by-election cannot be called within 12 months of a General Election. I guess that's what the PMOTT is waiting on.

The Judiciary has collapsed. Other jurisdictions guard their Justice system and ensure that their judicial system is above reproach. In the history of the US Supreme Court only one person, Justice Samuel Chase was impeached. In the UK Supreme Court Lord Neuberger had to resign because of his wife tweeting messages against Brexit and he was one of the Judges who was sitting on a case brought before the Court against Brexit. Our CJ has many questions to answer and so far there is not a lot forthcoming. The position of CJ is one above reproach, full stop!
The PMOTT makes decision to have the CJ removed via a Tribunal which then makes a recommendation to the Privy Council. During this period the CJ must step aside to allow the Tribunal to do it's work. The President, however, appoints the new CJ. Are we going to see immediate action on the Judiciary or do we have to wait until the appointment of a new President who will then have the responsibility of the new nomination?

The North Coast Road has collapsed. This has been happening for a number of years and required major works. Instead all we see is the removal of landslip material and then wait on the next rainfall. Has anyone determined what the economy of the North Coast has lost over the last 10 days. I guess it's not important because it has nothing to do with oil and gas.

The air and sea bridge has collapsed. There is not a day that goes by that this service is not being discussed. The people who use the service do not know what to do again. Every single vessel has broken down, the airbridge is in a mess with delays, lost luggage, cancellations etc. Like the North Coast economy what is the cost to the Tobago economy? Again it's not oil and gas.

The fight against crime has collapsed. What else can a citizen of the Rock say? It's just not happening. How about doing the sensible thing and decriminalise drugs, at least the weed, start the serious dismantling of the gangs and putting real measures in place to deal with illegal guns.

The spokespersons for the Government have collapsed. When last did you hear from the AG and the Minister of Everything. I guess Facebook says it all.

We could go on and on but I get you get my drift.

We should not be so negative about our Rock but sometimes we need to face reality and today, this month, this year we need to deal with a real situation. We need to take control of our Rock. Our voices, our demands, not putting up with dotishness, calling a spade a spade. The PMOTT was the one who blasted that 'we red and ready'. Some of us believed it and we must now hold him to his word.

Beautiful day on the Rock, family in the northern climes, suit up, turn up the thermostat, stay indoors,  think of Maracas Bay.

Good night and good luck!

Delta 4 over and out!

Sitting here in Maraval tonight its very windy with the electrical power dipping every now and again. From all reports the storm has gone to the north and the island of Trinidad is OK. Tobago however could be in for a rough patch. The Tropical Storm, now named Bret, is the second for the season and was formed very low in the Atlantic and threatened both Trinidad and Tobago. The last time a hurricane was named Bret was in August, 1999. It was a category 4 hurricane that thankfully did not prove to be that destructive with minimum fatalities and physical damage to property. Of course I marvel at the officialdom in T&T. Today, the party boats were out sailing to wherever. The island is under a storm watch and nobody thought it wise to restrict non-essential marine traffic. The Tobago ferries were restricted, the offshore oil and gas platforms were being evacuated and we were at the same time loading 'feters' to go on a party cruise. What exactly is the protocol? If a storm e...

ADD

A great thing happened today. I washed my car and it did not rain. OK, so other absolutely great things made history today, I am sure something was discovered that will change mankind, decisions by world leaders for world peace. None of that is of interest to me because the simple task of washing my car was what was of great import and I marvelled at the sun and dry weather. It is the little things in ones life that give the greatest joy. Tomorrow should be the same with a prediction of only 20% precipitation. Two days with a clean car is good. I am one of those who curse WASA who has leaks on the main roads with spray flying all around and dirtying up my clean car. WASA should have zero leaks, that should be WASA's goal, I don't think that they are interested in any of this as the leaks continue and the complaints from the citizens continue. I remember in the Manifesto of the ruling party a commitment was made to increase the truck delivery of truck borne water. Go figure! ...

'spinning top in mud'

It's a dark and stormy night here in the Maraval Valley. Hearing thunder in the distance, heavy drizzle, wind, cool temperature. The small 'Bajan' frogs are revving tonight creating a racket. I guess it's the rainy season and this is what you get. It is now one week since Tropical Storm Bret came over the island and for many people things have not yet gotten back to normal. Reading one of the weekly columnists today writing about his growing up in a flood prone area and basically the family taking it in their stride every rainy season. He commented on the fact that his father knew where they were living and never blamed the authorities or demanded from the authorities any compensation for the losses suffered as a result of the annual floods. It is different now and demands are made for every 'big toe bounce'  and it seems that no one takes responsibility for their lot in life. Not sure where this came from but there has to be a line as to how far a government c...
