'pan'

Tonight we missed the boat, we committed to a stay home affair not checking our pan calendar. Of course tonight is 'Pan on de Avenue'. How could that be possible? Well, stuff happens and that's that! There is always next year.

My brain is drained these days. It is a challenge to have to deal with all that is happening and not happening on the rock every day.

A guy swimming from Scarborough port to Trinidad, a guy who religiously used the Health and Safety reasons for shutting down offices, a guy who still has the Licensing Office at Wrightson Rd. closing at 1.00 pm, trying to make a point about good governance! There is a fierce current between the island's, that's all I will say.

TTT, imagine? What could the GOTT be thinking? A buss business is a buss business by any name!

The ferry fiasco, the continuing saga. All will be exposed very soon.

DJ Rowley- I have no problem with the PMOTT touching base with the people. The hours that you spent today could have been spent exploring every single idea to help fix this failed economy. We are heading for the cliff and you do a PR stint on radio? I guess it was the same man who decided to bring back TTT who told you that the radio DJ stint was a good idea.

The rock seems to be just rolling along with little or no direction. Unless we the people get our act together and understand that this style of governance is going to take us no where, in fact it will actually be the demise of this wonderful country. Do not for one minute think that 'Gawd is ah Trini', that was probably true when energy prices were twice what they are today. Reality says that we are going to be in this negative position for a very long time unless we drag ourselves out of it.

There has to be another solution to our politics. There is an underground movement that is happening as we speak. The traditional style of politicking will die a natural death and a new system will emerge. This is a system of engagement, a system where people actually become a real part of the policy and decision making without having to be an office holder. How about a way where people can contribute in a real sense to ensure that their views are heard, a method where the politician does not tell the people what they, the people, need to do but the complete reverse. The politician is now voicing the actual views of real people. A bit utopian one might say, well think of it. What can a politician tell the fishermen based in Claxton Bay what is good for them or the person living in Sea Lots, Cumacac or Goodwood Park? If there was a way for the people to communicate with the politician then maybe we could actually get the fix right first time! This is real and will determine the politics going forward.

The time has come, we will need to ditch the old and bring on the real, people involvement in creating a country whose people understand who and what they stand for and are ready to throw out the politics that have done us in for decades. Getting the population involved will create a society who is interested in working hard to build a country.

Missing the pan, good night and good luck!

'apology' expression of regret at having caused trouble for someone

Today Trinidad and Tobago was on fire. The discussions on the 'apology,' discussions on the status of the Parliament, everybody is now a certified meteorological expert reporting rainy season rain, people were out and about being very assertive about things that many of them did not really understand. Heat in the place! The statements being made, which caused the 'apology' to then be made, were being said, I think, without really understanding who we are as a people. This is 2017 and we still are having trouble in coming to grips with many social and historic issues that strangely enough are being discussed every day in many places and yet it is only a problem depending on who makes the statement. Let me say that the statement that was made was, even though to many factual, however it rubbed people the wrong way. This is where I have a problem. You read columns written by certain persons that under no circumstances will offend any sector of the society. That same posi

'the bongo night'

She looks at me and says ' you know what night it is?'. I immediately think of 'the bongo night' and she says 'it's Sunday that means popcorn'. So much for 'bongo'. Love the tropics, it is dark by 6.30 and will be light by 6.00am. This is good for ones being, the daylight and nighttime are more or less equal, good balance. We attended a showing of yet another brilliant artist, Abigail Hadeed, whose work spans decades. Her photography is exceptional and her current show ' the Weight of Water' at the 'Y' is something not to be missed. We are a truly talented people, only 1.3m of us yet we can produce world-class works of art. This is why we are very special, very special indeed. I see the great country of America is having their 'midterm' election.  Why should this be of any import for a small island like ourselves? Well for starters I think there is an equivalent Trini population living in the good ole USA. Depending on h

'aghhhhhhhh'

This week has me feeling so down about the rock and what really is our future. I have always considered myself to be Mr. Optimistic. Things would be bad, sometimes downright terrible with little or no hope and I would be there battling it out. The hard part is our present and future position is all man made [excuse the gender] and it seems that no matter what we do, how we vote, who we put our trust in, it somehow ends up bad. In 1956, the hope was there, a mass appeal, in 1986 it returned and was destroyed by 1990, in 2010 432,026 electors voted for the Peoples Partnership, in excess of 60% of the population. By 2015 a lot of the love disappeared and we found ourselves in a position of no-where once again. I use these years because the popular vote was there, the majority voted overwhelmingly for the winning party. Even though the winner in 1956 did not win by any semblance of a majority, over 80% of the electorate cast their vote. It is interesting to note that in 1956 the PPPG
