'jefe'

I never considered our neighborhood as being one with an ecosystem. I thought houses, golf course, mini mart, school were actually the antithesis of a green environment. Today's evening walk proved that wrong as I had two different experiences. The first being a fellow walker taping the cacophony made by the hundreds of parrots nesting in the neighborhood bamboo. Then I meet walker no. 2 who informs me that there is a new grouping of parakeets who have taken up residence in her area. We can now add this to the early morning hawks and the strange night bird calls. Very happy to see that earth is alive and well in Moka.

How can the PMOTT say that "the PM's job is one of the two worst jobs in T&T". He made this statement in the Parliament during the "debate" over the appointment of a new Commissioner of Police. The worst job? I do not understand, what is the PMOTT on about? Is he not aware for a fleeting moment of the power he has to be able to change the way we see ourselves, to change the fortunes of the country, to put us all on the path to posterity, to ensure the future of the people of the Rock is in good hands? Is it that the PMOTT has a problem with being a real-life leader? actually having to make decisions that will be life changing?
Reading this statement has me very concerned, it's almost Trumpish. Blame everyone and everything else on the misfortunes of the Rock without taking responsibility for anything. You offered yourself for public office, you won the election, you are the PMOTT, you are therefore in charge and after nearly three years in office have to accept the responsibility for the affairs of the country. Blaming the LOTO for sins committed does not make our situation any better. You are the 'jefe' so then be a 'jefe'.          Stop the crying, whimpering and spoilt child attitude. The electorate is not buying the excuses about who did what especially where it is all just rhetoric with nothing tangible being done. We are fed up with the accusations. There is always a file somewhere ready to produce dirt on someone, but the file never surfaces.

As the PMOTT you can bring real, meaningful change to the lives of every single citizen.

  •  Proportional Representation to break the stupid racial voting pattern.
  • The Right to Re-call to deal with errant MP's.
  • The process of Referendum where we the citizens can tell you what we really think.
  • The new process to select a Commissioner of Police considering the current system is flawed.
  • The decriminalizing of marijuana usage.
  • The removal of all laws dealing with gender discrimination.
  • The removal of all the Service Commissions having outlived there useful life.
  • The complete overhaul of Government.
  • A new way of governing ourselves with the removal of the archaic, unworkable Westminster system.
  • Shutting down the State-owned sector, this will go a long way in eliminating corruption. Why does the State need to own a quarrying company? or any other commercial entity for that matter?

PMOTT, there is a ton load of work to be done. Saying that you have a lousy job and that nobody would want it is not what we want to hear. Wake up tomorrow and set your sights on making this Rock the best place on earth! It can happen with proper leadership!

Working at a job that you absolutely hate is the worst thing that you could possibly imagine.  If that is the case do what other sensible people do, leave!

Tomorrow on my early morning sojourn I am going to further observe the bio-diversity in my neighborhood, record same and report back.

Good night and good luck people, remember if you do not like the job that you are in, hand in your resignation on Monday, there is another life!

'apology' expression of regret at having caused trouble for someone

Today Trinidad and Tobago was on fire. The discussions on the 'apology,' discussions on the status of the Parliament, everybody is now a certified meteorological expert reporting rainy season rain, people were out and about being very assertive about things that many of them did not really understand. Heat in the place! The statements being made, which caused the 'apology' to then be made, were being said, I think, without really understanding who we are as a people. This is 2017 and we still are having trouble in coming to grips with many social and historic issues that strangely enough are being discussed every day in many places and yet it is only a problem depending on who makes the statement. Let me say that the statement that was made was, even though to many factual, however it rubbed people the wrong way. This is where I have a problem. You read columns written by certain persons that under no circumstances will offend any sector of the society. That same posi

'the bongo night'

She looks at me and says ' you know what night it is?'. I immediately think of 'the bongo night' and she says 'it's Sunday that means popcorn'. So much for 'bongo'. Love the tropics, it is dark by 6.30 and will be light by 6.00am. This is good for ones being, the daylight and nighttime are more or less equal, good balance. We attended a showing of yet another brilliant artist, Abigail Hadeed, whose work spans decades. Her photography is exceptional and her current show ' the Weight of Water' at the 'Y' is something not to be missed. We are a truly talented people, only 1.3m of us yet we can produce world-class works of art. This is why we are very special, very special indeed. I see the great country of America is having their 'midterm' election.  Why should this be of any import for a small island like ourselves? Well for starters I think there is an equivalent Trini population living in the good ole USA. Depending on h

'aghhhhhhhh'

This week has me feeling so down about the rock and what really is our future. I have always considered myself to be Mr. Optimistic. Things would be bad, sometimes downright terrible with little or no hope and I would be there battling it out. The hard part is our present and future position is all man made [excuse the gender] and it seems that no matter what we do, how we vote, who we put our trust in, it somehow ends up bad. In 1956, the hope was there, a mass appeal, in 1986 it returned and was destroyed by 1990, in 2010 432,026 electors voted for the Peoples Partnership, in excess of 60% of the population. By 2015 a lot of the love disappeared and we found ourselves in a position of no-where once again. I use these years because the popular vote was there, the majority voted overwhelmingly for the winning party. Even though the winner in 1956 did not win by any semblance of a majority, over 80% of the electorate cast their vote. It is interesting to note that in 1956 the PPPG
