rock and roll

A good day on the Rock. I walked past a WASA pump installation this afternoon when all of a sudden a hose busted with water flying all over the place. I immediately called WASA and within 20 minutes a technician drove up to the installation and attended to the situation. Of course we can do it, and do it every time. There is no reason why we have to be inefficient. Whether it is water, electricity customs or immigration, licensing, pothole patching, why the drama every time? Why not simply get the job done?
I heard of stories of the Immigration and Customs in Grenada offering refreshments to persons arriving by sea last weekend, apologising for any delay in the processing of the arriving vessel.
This is called respect. It has nothing to do with 'oh immigration officers should not smile, they should not be welcoming in case you are trying to enter illegally'. That is old, old, old and has nothing to do with the 21st century. We hear of the horror stories of a visitor's first impression of the Rock with Immigration and Customs being the culprits. The President of the PSA, a budding politician, will soon realise that if by fluke he ever became the head of anything political, like the THA, that all of a sudden he is now in charge and guess what, responsible. Making excuses and stupid statements will now be something of the past. I have had first hand knowledge of his whining and complete disregard for the general public for the sole purpose of looking good in the eyes of the PSA membership. He is a charlatan. Now where did that come from?

I have no idea what is going to happen with the appointment of a Commissioner of Police. The embarrassment, the complete mismanagement of a process, the most irresponsible actions taken by the Chairman of the PSA who is given the authority to make a decision and what? The 'what' is the issue, the 'what' is the problem. So, with the absolute highest ever murder rate in the history of the Rock and everybody goes home as though nothing ever happened. When are we going to take a stand, $%^&*the party, #$%^&*the politics, $%^&*the leader, $%^&*the membership card and deal with this horrific situation?
This country is too good a country, the people are good people, the villains are a minuscule percentage of the good people. What in God's name are you afraid of? Is it that the government owes a debt, is it that you will interfere with an illegal economy that is alive and well in your own constituencies, what exactly is the reason for not getting rid of the criminal elements? This will devour you and you will not even know it.

What is going on re crime is crazy. Our Rock is being destroyed by a group of people who have zero interest in the Rock. We need to get rid of them permanently.
If we can get back to some semblance of normalcy with our lives then we can move on.

I started off with a good experience and descended into a negative mode. The problem is that I am defiant, I refuse to give in, I will be part of the change of this Rock!
Let's rock and roll people!

Good night and good luck!

Peace and quiet

When you hear the words 'perfect' or 'the best' it makes you feel like a million dollars. Human nature is weird, a simple compliment can turn a whole story into a week of joy! And, yes, I am speaking about the Sunday night popcorn! Apparently, tonight was exceptional. I hope the rest of the week translates into 'perfect'. The horrible news of the deaths of two cyclists over the weekend came as a real shock. We both know a number of people who cycle for good weekend sport and to hear of Joe Brown being killed in an accident was truly heart-rending. When we heard of the accident we started to think of all the people we know who cycle and just hoped it might be somebody we did not know. Is this how it works, you hope that it's not someone you know, what about all the people who actually know the person? Truly a sad day! RIP Joe and Joanna! The issue of cycling and motorists is one that every country I am sure goes through. Is it that the main roads are for...

Keith Noel RIP

Today will always be remembered, as it is the anniversary of the last time I saw my good friend Keith Noel. On this day in 2005 at around 8.00pm, we told Keith goodbye after we had a lime at a local bar, the following day was Corpus Christi, a public holiday. The next morning at around 4.00am I received a phone call informing me of Keith's murder. My life changed, our lives changed as my life partner and I became heavily involved in trying to make a meaningful change as to how we lived here on the Rock. Our children were involved, our eldest son was Keith's good friend as were many co-workers and friends of Keith Noel. Keith's murder was classed as no. 136 on the police files. During our awareness and petition campaign, we were called names by many people who obviously disagreed with what we were doing. I guess the success of the movement, then called the Keith Noel 136 Cmt, created quite a concern amongst those who should have been concerned. Keith would have been 55 ye...

R&R

We had two of the four grands spend the weekend with us whilst the parents went off to the North Coast for some rest and relaxation. From all reports, the sojourn was well spent with both singing the praises of our North Coast, no beach, just R&R. We are ten minutes from the coast and I hate to admit it but it is rare that we venture north. One of the selling points of coming to live in the wilds of Maraval in 1983 was the fact that Maracas Bay was a mere 30 mins away. Maracas could have been next door it did not matter, we just do not do it. Having grandchildren I think puts you in a very different place. When our kids were growing up we were struggling with building a business from scratch, living off of a teachers salary, impossible then as it is now, and generally ketching. But as it is with all things in life we survived. Looking back at those years it was difficult, kids, dogs, mortgage and other loans, but you knew why you were putting yourself through all this hard...
